We did persuasive writings about a topic we choose. I'm trying to explain to you how music in class can help students with anything school related. All my paragraphs have 5 sentences. I have background information and also information from the internet. I hope you enjoy my persuasive writing and begin to relize how music in school would help.
We are doing inquiry and you had to choose a subject and I choose The First Thanksgiving. This is my presentation, hope you like it. So we are working on Point of View. We are doing some things with Roanoke. I chose Virginia Dare to write a journal entry on her thoughts and what happened. In her diary that I wrote she is going to explain her feelings. Here is all of her diary writing during the Roanoke time.
December 25, 1587 Dear Diary, Okay, I know I haven't written in her for seven months but theres a lot to talk about. So Sir Walter Raleigh sent over 100 settlers to Roanoke where I live. I really hope this time it last longer. I was very sad last time when it didn't last. This is a very exciting moment to talk about. John White is the captain of this colony. I think captain White is very CRAZY! Well I don't have much to talk about, but I want to tell you more! John White is leaving tomorrow to go get supplies. I’ll talk about more later. January 14, 1589 Okay i’m back but with bad news. John White STILL hasn't returned! I’m so sorry its been forever. I’ve been so busy! I feel really bad for the rest of the settlers. They are probably having a hard time without John White. Okay I have to go to bed sorry night! February 17, 1590 So, today John White returned! This is a very exciting moment, I’m not really sure what happened but all the settlers are gone. I went outside to tell John White welcome back and I saw something that made me wanna cry. Okay I will tell you. The only sign of the settlers is a word called “CROATOAN” carved in a tree. I’m probably not gonna write again for awhile. I'm way too sad and my hand hurts. I will talk to you soon. OKAY? Night. I did a lot over thanksgiving break. On thanksgiving we celebrated my birthday and had turkey and ham. My cousin Tara and I have a tradition on every holiday dinner we have a sleepover. On Friday my sister and I went out to eat, then we went back to my sisters house. We toke a short nap then we went black Friday shopping at Walmart and Target. On Saturday I stayed with my grandma. My grandma and I set up her Christmas tree and made caramel candy apples. On Sunday my sister came to get me from my grandmas. My sister took me out to lunch and then we went to my house. I took a long nap, then we went shopping and watched the Broncos beat the Chiefs.
We studied the English Settlements in Social Studies. We used powtoon to show we can explain the causes & consequences of the settlements. My powtoon is below I hope you enjoy. Click to set custom HTML My favorite book is called "The Meaning Of Maggie". This book is about a girl named Maggie and her family. This book has a lot of meaning in it. Maggie's dads legs are asleep so he has a wheelchair and he has to quit his job. Maggie's mom never worked until her dad quit his job she finally went to work. Maggie loves school so much she cant stand to miss it. Maggie's mom's new job has bring your kid to school day so Maggie's mom makes her skip school and go to work with her. Maggie was not very happy. Maggie shares a room with her sister Tiffany. Maggie's sisters are very mean to her because she is the youngest. Maggie had two birthdays in this book, I believe she turned 11 in the first one and 12 in the 2nd one. Maggie's dad believes hes the coolest dad ever. Maggie starts 6th grade in this book. Sixth grade means all new kids and a whole new life. Maggie has a crush in sixth grade and she sees him on Halloween and she is with her dad and her dad really likes the kid he believes he cooler then ever. On Valentines day Maggie's "friend" comes over and shows her the rose that Maggie's crush gave her, Maggie gets really upset. Maggie's P.E. teacher is having a baby so they have the track teacher sub for her. Maggie acted sick that day but they wouldn't let her go home. Maggie had to go to P.E. She tried to sit out put the teacher and her dad both agreed that running would help her. Maggie had to run a mile witch was 4 laps around the track. While Maggie was running the girl that came up to her and showed her the flower had tried to help her run. They became good friends.
At the end of the school year Maggie's crush had ask her to sign his yearbook so she did and so did he. They both agreed that they should get together over the summer. Over the summer Maggie ran a lot, her sisters even ran with her! Maggie's birthday was very soon. On Maggie's birthday her mom takes her to a writing club at the library, because her mom knew she loved writing. Maggie had a meltdown because she couldn't find her scarf. During the writing club Maggie went to the bathroom and when she came back Layla her oldest sister was there. Maggie knew something was wrong. Layla came to get Maggie to take her to the hospital. While Maggie was at the writing club on her birthday her dad had a seizure. Tiffany was at home alone with her dad when he had his seizure. When Maggie's mom came home the ambulance were there. Maggie, Layla, and Tiffany stayed the night at the hospital. At the hospital Maggie's mom gave her one of presents, it was a notebook with the same paper the Indapendence was writen on. It was just what Maggie wanted. I hope you read this book and enjoy it as much as I did! Today we watched a video called "I Lived" By - One Republic. It was a video on Youtube about a teenager named Bryan who has cystic fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis is a type of disease that makes it uneasy to breath. It effects your lungs. Bryan talks about his disease and the causes of it. When you have cystic fibrosis its hard to breath so it would be hard to play sports and be active, but Bryan is very active. Bryan is active in many ways, for example, biking, hockey, swimming, and rollerblading. The lyrics in this song meant a lot to me. It says "Hope you take that jump, you don't fear the fall". To me that means, take the chances but don't pull fear into them. "Hope when the water rises you build a wall". To me that means, as bad things come into your life build a wall so it doesn't get to. I could go on and on but why don't you watch the video for yourself and figure out what the lyrics mean to you. While your watching this video you may need tissues, hope you like. Link below. For social studies we are doing a explorer of our choice to research. My explorer was John Cabot, he was known for finding rich and nice soil. He was also the first on to claim England. Here is my Haiku Deck to help you understand more about John Cabot. John Cabot - Created with Haiku Deck, presentation software that inspires We did a Inquiry research and I chose to research why Pluto was a dwarf planet because I was interested in it. My question was, why is Pluto considered a dwarf planet? Here is my thing link to my question. Today Mr. Samuel came to visit us. He came because last year we collected money for a well. Mr, Samuel came from Konde Farm. Samuel quoted "Be the change that you wish to be in the world." That quote means to me that he wants us to make people feel good don't make them feel bad be a person you wish to be. One thing that can make you a positive impact in the world is making people feel good about themselves. Samuel talked and showed pictures of what school was like in Sierra Leone. I thought there school life was pretty surprising because its a lot of money for just a kindergarten to go. For a kindergarten to go to school its fifty dollars for a year, that's a lot. There are many of ways to help Sierra Leone one of my ideas are a clothes drive. We could put a box somewhere and people could bring old clothes and put them in there and we could ship them to a place where they could get sent to Sierra Leone. Mrs.Oliver asked what Africans perceive Americans Samuel's answer was that some Americans are very generous and some have more then they need. I think that Africans perceive Americans this why because most of them don't have as much as us and some of us have more than we need. We can help Africans that is one why we can change the world. One thing that is stuck with me is that Americans have 10 times as much as Africans. I was surprised about how many people suffered through out the war. My questions are "why do Africans go door to door on Christmas singing and dancing for money?"
